Season's Greetings
On behalf of the Alberta Federation of Police Associations, we would all like to wish sincere and heartfelt season's greetings to you and yours!
And Welcome Back
After almost ten years the Calgary Police Association (CPA) are back in the Alberta Federation of Police Associations (AFPA).
Over the past two years members of the Board of the AFPA have met with their counterparts on the CPA with the objective of bringing in the largest Police Association in the Province back into the AFPA. Finally at the Annual General Meeting in Medicine Hat John Dooks, their President, on behalf of his Board signed off and their expertise, experience and knowledge will assist all of the members of the AFPA.
It's been a long journey, with many differences between all of the members, but it was clear that in order for the AFPA to achieve its goals, Calgary with its 1900 members, should be sitting alongside at the negotiating table, especially when it came to Pension and Wages issues.
A strong unified body is essential when the directors representing the sworn police officers in the Province sit down with the Provincial Government on matters that often have adverse affect on working conditions and benefits. No longer will the "Divide and conquer" mentality be used where the AFPA was asked what the position of Calgary was, when they were not at the table, and likewise Calgary would not be isolated without the backing of the rest of the Province.
Many years ago, when the Special Forces Pension Plan was initiated, Calgary and Edmonton were the driving forces behind setting up a 25 year service and out pension plan, the first in the Country, and we hope that with this new addition to the AFPA we can build on this and other initiatives.
Welcome Calgary, it's great to have you back.
